What is sustainable construction?

Solar Panels Atlanta, GA

construction involves building living spaces and workplaces which are energy-efficient, healthy to live in, and better for the environment. It means constructing buildings which preserve our natural resources and do minimal damage to our ecological systems.

IBG utilizes sustainable building processes in all of our projects.  That means that all of our buildings utilize materials which do some or all of the following:

  • Reduce energy costs
  • Reduce wastes and toxins
  • Improve indoor air quality
  • Reduce water use

All of our projects are Energy Star rated, and those which are currently under construction are designed and budgeted for either EarthCraft or LEED certifications.

What’s more, each member of our project management team is either LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-accredited or in the process of preparing for the exam.

Teaching Sustainability

In 2009, IBG partnered with Southface, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable communities, to train staff, development partners, and architects in “What Green Really Means to Multifamily Projects.” We explored what it takes to obtain green designations for projects as well as the costs associated with Energy Star, EarthCraft, and LEED.
