NAWIC Atlanta hosts Blueprint Reading Class

Atlanta, GA, Wednesday, July 11, 2012- IBG Construction Services hosted the Atlanta Chapter of NAWIC and their Blueprint Reading Class this past week. This was the second of a two class series and was an amazing opportunity offered to the public. During this class, participants were able to learn how to read and measure blueprint and construction drawings.  Some of the drawing disciplines were architecture, civil, structural, planning, mechanical and electrical.

Each table consisted of a pair of blue print plans. The assignments for the students were to locate certain items (doors, steel beams etc.) and be able to measure the linear feet between objects.

Valencia McDaniel CIT, NAWIC member stated, “Our instructor Katie Willis was very knowledgeable. She was able to explain things and break things down, so everyone could understand. Even though I am in the construction industry and familiar with blueprints, this class helped me to better understand the drawing types and how to navigate through the drawings and identity plan content and their components.”

NAWIC Atlanta hosts several events for the community. Their next event is their annual Block Kids Building Competition which focuses on elementary aged students. This event exposes the students to the construction industry, giving them hands on opportunities to learn different aspects of construction.
