Edgewood Property Dedicated

On a brisk Tuesday Morning, the Edgewood Community was buzzing with events. The U.S. Secretary of HUD Shaun Donovan, Mayor Kasim Reed, and others came together to view, and dedicate theEdgewood Property. An area once inflicted with drugs and crime was positively turned around to state of the art townhomes. These townhomes are LEED qualifying and were built with many sustainable features. This is all a part of an ongoing effort Donovan stressed, which was, “trying to Keep Americans in their homes and avoid foreclosure.” The program started with HUD Secretary Donovan and Mayor Reed walking down the hill from the upper part of the Edgewood Property. After, they toured the inside of one property. They closed  the program out with their speeches and facts about how properties like Edgewood are helping the economy in spite of a recession.

On the other side of the property, an installation instruction class was being held by SouthFace. This class tested workers on their LEED knowledge about installation.  A  LEED-certified home is designed and constructed in accordance with the rigorous guidelines of the LEED for Homes green building certification program. LEED for Homes is a consensus-developed, third party-verified, voluntary rating system which promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes.

Southface offers several test training and preparations for LEED. By properties being LEED, they help the environment and also lower utility cost for residents staying in the property.
